Thread inspired by (hed) p.e. having like, 13 albums and having almost their entire set be songs from the Broke album from 23 years ago. Sevendust also has that many albums and a bulk of their setlist comes from the first 4 albums.

dude this is such an interesting topic cuz its like.. . do they just realize that theyre not releasing good music or something? or is it crowd appeal? and if so, WHY are they continuing to release music if it keeps missing the mark
and then there's bands like Rush, who have like an obv chunk of meh material, but otherwise about 12 GOOD records to work with for a set
i think bands should release 1 album.

I think they should release as many albums as they want as long as they’re good or people keep tuning in. But then again even if the albums sucks you will have die hard fans of said bad albums, shit Hardlore did a whole episode dedicated to “bad” albums and most of them rocked.
I don’t like critiquing music, movies, any art tbh cause damn that’s Someone’s art, someone’s work, if I can tell someone put effort in to it, why shit on them? It doesn’t have to be for me, I don’t have to “get it” I simply move in and fuck with what I get.

Merauder should’ve just had Master Killer. Unless they actually got good production on 5 Deadly Venoms then two would’ve been it and they could’ve lived comfortably off those forever.

Oh yeah, I feel like a band should really go for it all, it's hard not to when you're in that position. There is an obvious logistical issue with having more albums; you practically need to be bounced up to "stadium headliner with a 2+ hour set" status to fit all of it in, or else you need to pick and choose. I feel like a lot of bands have kind of broken the wall while speaking of the industry's need to push a band to put out a new album in order to generate hype to tour on. Godsmack said this album will maybe be their last, and they shouldn't have to put out a new record every time they want to go on tour because people only care about the US Navy recruitment song. Disturbed said they'll put out an EP maybe, and I know fans are only asking for the "Ouuu-AH-AH-AH-AH" stuff from them. I saw System Of A Down in that era, 5 albums and an arena headliner length set, they played almost their entire catalogue.

I hate to nu-metal up this thread a bunch, but this is a hardcore/metalcore centered board, and I think most of those bands have like, 3 or 4 albums max, which is probably the perfect amount of albums to have for a band with a 30-40 minute set. You can mix up the set so it's not stale, and no one yells at you for overstaying your welcome.
Also, since it's relevant, I have to throw Metallica out there. As a middle-era millennial, I'm on year 25 of seeing them write a new album in which the entire music journalism and touring industry will absolutely rally around and advertise everywhere, but everyone surrounding me tells me it'll be shit because it's not their 1980s shit.

Not a bad record, I’d be happy with whatever set list they’d pick. Metallica still puts on a GREAT show even with the new stuff thrown in there (some them like a few months after Hardwired came out, songs flowed well with the older tracks)

I hate to beg, but SOAD could do us all a favor and play some headliner shows that aren't in Los Angeles or on some sort of radio rock band festival in Florida or Tennessee called Cruisin' Into RockTown or some shit.
Some other notes: Out of all bands I've seen with rather deep catalogues, I feel like Clutch gets the most out of everything they've released. Long sets with something from almost every release, you might not see the same set twice. Hot Water Music does this well, too.
On a different end, they're mentioned enough on this board, but I think Glassjaw definitely got the most out of their career for a band that was (for a long time) only 2 full lengths, and then a pair of EPs later on.

ALSO:
technically SOAD only had 3 albums - steal this album was outtake material from toxicity/self titled, and mezmerize/hypnotize is meant to be seen as two parts that make up a cohesive double album. the only reason they were released separately was so to not intimidate fans with the prospect of *having* to listen to the whole thing in the full. smart move, kind of prophetic for how the average listener treats music on streaming, even if its not even that long. i think both albums combined is only barley an hour and 20 mins. you could prob fit both albums into a single disc.
