I'm surprised we never had a thread about comedians on this board.
Anyway, I took some time earlier this month to see Christopher Titus, and he can still pull an entire act out of how insanely dysfunctional his family was while growing up in the 60s/70s. I really enjoyed his sitcom from 20 years ago, all 2 seasons of it.
Anyway, who else is still funny out there?

Oh wow Titus, that takes me back! Was too young to understand the show but I still watched cause tv helped me better my English lol
I don’t keep up much with modern stand up but I did watch Ari Schaffir’s new special that’s free on YouTube and he’s still funny when he’s not being a try hard edge lord.
Other than that I just rewatch classic stand ups from Carlin, Bill Burr, and Patrice O’Neil.

Shane Gillis seems to keep getting funnier. i revisit Patrice every now and then. Tom Segura is still funny i think but his wife is almost offensively obnoxious. i think the new class of comedians has been pretty good imo. Nimesh Patel, Chris Destefano, Sahib Singh, and Sam Morril are some of my contemporary favorites. i’ll throw Stavros Halkias in there too, he’s pretty good.

Yeah, I'm bad about checking out new comedians. Some of the ones I remember from the 2000s aren't doing so hot, went out of style, or totally flipped over into some Trump bullshit. One of my friends got to see Dave Attell at some point and said he's still got it.
I have a friend who used to try to do stand-up, and I went to see him when he was trying to hang out with that. I'm not sure if he does anymore. Same friend actually saw Mitch Hedberg on the last tour he was on before he died; can't say I'm not envious of that. I wish he was still around.

We've reached this point where we're boosting advocacy for being neurodivergent, and people kind of have this recency bias where they attach these ills to modern celebs and such. I always think of Hedberg, though. Dude was very funny and amiable, but had social anxiety that was so incredibly bad that he used a lot of drugs to cope with that (also, this is where the 'sunglasses onstage at night' look stems from). In a nutshell, comedy is public speaking, which many performers seem totally comfortable doing, and I think a lot of what drove people like myself and my friend to Hedberg is that you could kind of tell he wasn't.

Those dudes usually nail it on the vocal delivery. I feel like Chris Rock could say almost anything at all and still be funny.
If there is one art that has absolutely suffered in a modern world where everything is consolidated to the internet, it's comedy. I swear if I have to continue hearing jokes about "Haha, so yeah, I'm on Tinder..." or "I was just in an Uber...", I'm going to find Ted Kaczynski's cabin and start twisting those wires together.

Listening to the Bill Hicks 'Rant in E Minor' album where he yells about religion, doing mushrooms, and killing Billy Ray Cyrus.

Watched the new Chris Rock special a few weeks ago and it was really mid. Everyone only talked about the bits he did about the Will Smith incident but what I personally didn’t like is this bit Rock did about his own daughter where he says he got her expelled from school to set her on the right path and it just left me with a weird ass feeling. Idk. He’s def one of the greatest but maybe he should just sit back and relax from now on, same with Chappelle.
