Ok, it's less than 2 weeks before I drag my ass to an election booth, and we all get to see if Pennsylvania is a blue state or red state this time around. How's the political landscape where you guys live? If we go red, I might have to ask for tips on how to deal with what to expect when abortion clinics close.

Also, if you remember this fiasco blowing up on Twitter about 2 years ago, this guy actually ran in my voting district at the time. I tried to find his campaign office so that some funny things could happen, but I think most candidates are just running that stuff out of their homes now.

Live in south Texas literally 5 minutes from the border, our only abortion clinic here was forced to shut down and moved to New Mexico. Total nightmare for undocumented people seeking abortions because in order to leave our region you have to pass a border checkpoint 100 miles away from the border if you’re gonna travel anywhere north. Makes no fucking sense, I always say my area is ground zero for the American police state/fascist regime. People with passports can hop across to Mexico and get abortions there/abortion pills but you never really know if you can trust it unless you know someone there.
Democrats have done fuck all to support the local progressive candidates here, all the work is being done by grassroots block walkers spreading the good word. We’ve been blue forever so they kinda just expect it to stay that way. Really sucks that we’re such a hot topic area in the national media but the only politicians that come here are fear mongering republicans that wanna do their little military cosplay for photo ops. Won’t be surprised if we turn red, they’ve been going hard on the propaganda campaign saying how unsafe our area is (it’s not lol been living here my whole life and the only thing that makes it unsafe is the border patrol and state troopers that heavily patrol)
Bernie Sanders is coming down on Saturday to rally support for some of local representatives so that’s cool.
My mail box is littered with smear campaign pamphlets and there’s this particularly transphobic one written in Spanish about how Joe Biden wants adult men to be able to use bathrooms for little girls grades k-12. (Area is predominately Spanish speaking Catholics so yeah they fall for that shit)

I know a lot of northeast neolibs love to dump on Texas, but I feel that PA especially has a lot of affinity with the state. A lot of fake cowboy types up here too (for some reason).
I've heard some people from Texas talk about that culture down there in which if you don't join the football team in high school and move through college that way, you'll never leave your hometown, and that is definitely a prevailing mindset in the small towns up here as well. I still hate having to mention that my school got a free grant and used all the grant money for a million-dollar stadium light set; meanwhile, I was still using textbooks from 1972 in the early 2000s.

Constant dunking and “you deserve the bad things happening in your state because you’re a Republican state” attitudes towards us as if the north isn’t as racist or more so than the south.
Oh yeah I def have seen similar people and mentalities in my short time I’ve been to Philly, Boston, and New York. Spent a few days in Boston and one of my mutuals drove out to show me around and when I mentioned I was happy not to see lifted trucks and wannabe red necks she told me “oh you gotta leave the city limits and the place is crawling with them” my jaw dropped lol
Yeah that’s def a thing here. Football is the most sacred thing next to religion for some people. Don’t really know anyone that’s lived that, mostly a north Texas thing (all the prestigious football schools are there) my area if you wanna make money and be someone in your town in border patrol or oil rigs. And it’s funny seeing all these dirt poor fuck the police type kids I grew up with make a little bit of that oil rig money suddenly go full MAGA overnight. Sell outs.

How much money is in the oil rig? I had this friend that took a right wing turn and moved down there. I last received a phone call from him late at night several years ago. He said he was driving around on patrol in a truck, but said he hoped to move up to a position where he could clear six figures. He ended up leaving that and going back to bartending.
It really sucks that Texas' driving image is that cowboy stuff. Dude I knew from high school moved down to OK and then TX specifically to do that. The guy claims he was walking around the border and just "found" a secret immigrant tunnel.
Both these guys live around the San Antonio area. Guy who attempted oil rig stuff used to hang around South Padre Island; I don't know if that's near you or not.

I’m not quite sure about the oil rig pay, it varies and I think the actual money comes from putting in insane amount of overtime where you’re working 12-16 hour shifts 6 days out of the week. When I asked my mom before finishing high school if I could do that, she said you really have to grind in order to make the big oil money (she was a banker in our small town and knew everyone, she would see the oil rig checks) alot of those people have tons of hidden debt and just give off the illusion of wealth/success (big house, lifted truck) kinda sad.
I think Border Patrol supervisors with tenure probably clear 6 figures but patrol trucks and field agents are around 49k-75k and I probably drive past 20+ of them everyday. Sometimes they’re on foot patrolling the border wall but for the most part they’re parked under a tree somewhere hoping for something to happen. The “secret” tunnels are pretty common, my home town has a few and the next town over has one that was used by Al Capone during the prohibition era. These twins I grew up with swore their house had a cellar with a secret passageway from smuggling that had been sealed off but that they could hear knocking coming from the other side sometimes.
I have seen an influx since the Trump days of people from more northern states coming to TX to work in BP. South Padre Island is about an hour south from me and it’s basically all my area is know for lol (we’re the Rio Grande Valley, 3 counties and multiple cities lumped in one big region) even people in Texas could not name you a single city in this region besides South Padre Island.

There's a politician up here who ran for state governor and lost out in the primary...he's in the state senate, and his entire rise through political power came through this situation about 15 years ago in which a cop pulled over a van, and a few Hispanic-looking people ran out of the back while the cop was filling out paperwork. It's wild how that kind of sentiment runs in this state, which is 2,000 miles from the border.

^I was looking up some things to clarify this dude's mayoral term (he was initially elected earlier than I thought) and holy Christ, this is just so racist and nasty.

...and here's our state's Republican candidate, nevermind that the dude also has all these other Q-anon ties and the like. Anyway, today is the day. Last day for annoying political ads. Make it count. Best of luck wherever all you guys live.

I'm thinking about how At The Drive-In affiliated Beto can't do it for Texas, but Fetterman pulled it out for PA, and I'm wondering if a Dem who openly liked Pantera could poll a bit better in TX.
