Just played for the first time and naturally got the worst ending - but not just that, I accidentally clicked (playing the GOG version) just as the cutscene loaded so I couldn’t even watch it as intended and ended up looking up the endings on YouTube.
Anyways ignoring that this one seemed like wasted potential, great setup and first half but playing the second half made me feel like team silent ran out of time and didn’t flesh out their ideas as much as they wanted to. I was expecting the peephole thing to play a role in the story or Henry’s character, and it seemed like they were trying to connect him with other characters like Mike, Joeseph, and Walter but didn’t take any of it anywhere.
Idk, will probably play through it again to get one of the good endings still but fuck escorting.

I have yet to play a Silent Hill game. Is it worth it to start playing one that isn't the very first one?

So long as it’s not 3 really, and that’s only if you care about the lore and stuff. 2 and 4 would kiiiind of spoil some aspects of the first game if you’re completely blind to the franchise. That being said I would recommend playing in release order if only because the first 2 are the best ones

Henry is tied to both Joseph and Walter because he's meant to be the 21st Sacrament in Walter's ritual. Joseph and Henry are/ were both tenants of room 302. I don't recall anything about Mike in the story apart from him just being another tenant in the complex, he isn't part of Walter's ritual. The doubling back to previous areas and the escort stuff is very tedious, I'll agree. What The Room did have going for it was incredible atmosphere, sound, environment, and monster design. The story is also pretty interesting too and I like that it doesn't just boil down to a city-wide cult affair like many other installments do.

The backtracking was fine for the most part but having to make sure Eileen isn’t hurt is the real ball kicker considering parts like that fucking escalator exists. I did like how you have to interact with the apartment for puzzles throughout the game, that was one of my favorite aspects. Mike seems like he was supposed to continue the voyeur theme because he’s a creepy pervert who stalks/spies on one of his neighbors, my thing was more that Henry felt like a blank slate who is connected to the other characters in a superficial way though on a second play through I don’t mind this so much.

Lol yeah I gotta say they didn't give him much of a personality. I haven't played in quite some time but I recall him saying "What the hell?" a few times and that being the most of his dialogue.

I can't remember what he says but if I had to put money on it he says "what..the hell?" lol and then the camera zooms out and he’s holding the phone line “Wait… the phone line is cut…” Straight out of a comedy lmao

The bread meme from SH3 always gets me no matter which iteration I see it in.

Finally got around to Silent Hill 2 a bit ago and also got the worst ending on my 1st playthrough.
What are the real good endings I should be trying to go for? I'm working on the Maria ending because I'm playing on easy and I feel that one has a lot of steps that might be harder to achieve on the upper difficulties.
