Lighting is just a thing where you have to rock with what the space has. It's a community center where you flick the switch and all the florescent panels go on. Building was likely built for hosting Bar Mitzvahs and business expos the rest of the year.
I've been to basement shows that have the one swinging bulb in the center, tangled Christmas lights or no lights.

Oh dammit, I forgot FYA 7 was the first one at that venue because they had to move it after the initial announcement.
Maybe it's a liability thing with the building owner, or to see if someone gets hurt in the pit. They seem to have a moveable pit here, unlike TIHC where every mosher is just right at the front.

fya will become less cool every year they don’t book a vegan band. that was their thing for the best years. i guess they’re not interested when the hype of having a uk or local vegan band isn’t around. side note: ldb is the straight edge fest, s&f is the two step special, and tihc is for old people. did i miss any majors?

FYA is happening now, and it looks like all of the bands made it. If no one comes back with the virus, maybe we can finally declare Covid to be over. Did anyone here go this year? Also, who ended up doing the vocals for Bulldoze? Someone i know came back with the fucking virus. Jeez. Tired of this shit

They're not around anymore, but United Blood, and maybe back when NYC's Superbowl Of Hardcore was a thing. Any further back from those and you get into the Hellfest era; I feel that's too old for debate.

Can't get any confirmation on those lights (a lot of people tell me they were on at FYA 7; looks like they're all turned off), but one thing I was able to confirm that I wasn't sure about--the venue is carpeted. That seems like it'd be awful to mosh on, and you get rugburn if you fall or biff your stagedive. I wonder if the FYA crew has to steam clean the blood and sweat out of there. Any other genre of music would have that thing soaked in beer, though, so that's a plus.

2024 looks kinda insane. i thought S&F was a good fest lineup and i was sad to miss it (especially to miss twitching tongues’ first show back) but i think this FYA might look even better. i know tickets sold out but guarantee about 2 weeks before i’ll see at least a dozen “can’t make it, anyone need an FYA ticket?” instagram story posts

Wish I could afford to do FYA. All I did up here was shovel out my car and blow my nose 1,000x times because I got a cold again somehow. All the footage from the fest looks cool as all hell.

yeah this year ruled. day 1 I got rocked hard during scarab, cleaned myself up, watched a couple bands in the back and still got up front later for twitching tongues, dying fetus and the last TUI song. ripped my pants stage diving day 2 and had to buy some pain of truth gym shorts from a merch table. it was super packed though, everyone I talked to said it seemed way more packed than prior years, maybe they oversold. everyone also said this was the most violent FYA yet, every band's pit was a warzone

I'm not sure about what, if anything, happened between Tyler and YOTK, but it's good to see him return to the front. Scarab is so fucking cool.

It's funny cause I didn't like YOTK's stuff with him but I like Scarab and the new YOTK so I guess things work out. Feels insensitive to say that after what happened to YOTK last year but hopefully they're recovering well and can play again soon, that album was awesome

Considering what happened, maybe he lucked out by leaving when he did.
I think the death metal side project in which all of YOTK plays in just announced a show, so YOTK return should be around the corner, though I'm not sure how much touring they'll be able to do.
